The 12th annual Surfside Seventies Expression Session this year is also in memory of John Kissel. The event is taking place on Saturday, July 10th at Anderson St. in Surfside, with 72 contestants battling it out on 1970’s era surfboards. Surfside Seventies veteran John Kissel passed away this year and a trophy and mucho prizes will be given out for the “John Kissel Power Surfer Award”.
Contestants pick a number and get to choose between 4 different seventies shapes with the corresponding number. It is always a fun event with young and veteran surfers enjoying some classic shapes. Awards ceremony will be at Taco Surf in Surfside at 3pm. Carl Hayward, Bruce Jones, Harbour, Herbie Fletcher, Ben Aipa, Patrillo, any many more vintage seventies shapes will be on the beach for you viewing and surfing pleasure.

6. Lance Allbright
John Kissel Power Surfer Award- Bradie Shemke

Best Cutback- Bob Bellamy
Best Up and Coming Grommets- Jake Baker. Zach Simpson

This years event really turned out magical. With no swell in the forecast, the waves came in and the conditions were glassy for the entire event. Tony Alvarado brought out some new beautiful shapes and the heats were stacked. 1976 World Champ Peter "PT" Townend surfed against grommet Jake Baker in a fun filled heat. The memory of John Kissel was in the air as the waves kept coming in and seemingly getting bigger. The technique and intensity of Jay Larson was unstoppable as he became the new Surfside Seventies champ. Close behind Jay was Paul Pugliesi who threw some incredible power turns. The "Expression Session"was about 20 minutes with about 20 guys out trying to get the best wave for the bamboo fin trophy and awards. Joe Paterno won over all the riders with his colorful wig and long sweeping left to the beach. Todd Horton beat out everyone with a spectacular wipeout...he'll be OK.
Thanks to everyone involved,
Rick

Big G www.sessionclips.com
http://www.sessionclips.com/
Everyone i just got word that one of the photogs and friend Jerry Lewis aka Big G has about 6 months left to live i heard this and was pretty upset.I also came to find out that people were just taking his photos and getting rid of the water marks and using them as you can read in his last leter on his website below.I have shot with him at various contests great guy and all around nice person. It saddin me to know that people can and will take advantage of people.Big G just wanted to be a good sports action photographer and make surfers such as myself happy by shooting photos of us and hopefully selling them cheap for us to use but peope were being sneaky.
So today he told me that he wont beable to shoot anymore and that breaks my heart.Big G also gave me the attched photo which were the last ones he will ever shoot .And all he asked is for me to keep them and do what i wanted with them.
So i wanted to share them with you and if you can find something you can use them for please do so..They are how they are attached they might be small and low rez .But if you can use them please do Big G would be stoked.
Please say a prayer for him.
Thanks

Well last weekend i did the 2010 Switchfoot bro/Am in Encinitas for the SIMR Surfboard team .Its a fum competiton where you have a 4 man team a 1/2 hr to catch a wave goofy and regular and then add the top waves and go from there. There were some great teams HurleyA/B ,Jedidah ,Surfer Mag,Surfline,Macbeth,Jetpilot, and a few others.Waves were fun my 1st heat was good scored a few good waves,?next heat was okay i did a face 1st into the sand and got alittle banged up but i did it for the team haha,we ended up getting 5th or 6th overall not bad for the underdog new team.Waves were fun a little windy thats okay.
I wanted to say thanks to everyone over at SIMR for letting me be apart of the team next yr its on yee ha
