What can i say ,I love stop #3 Pismo Beach Quaint little Beach town,Friendly people and u never know what the surf and weather will be like.
I was super excited when i realized on Monday i would be in Pismo on Friday.i had packed extra early i was that excited.
Friday rolled around and i couldn't get up fast enough to start the 4 1/2 drive from Oceanside. We woke up to cloudy ugly weather not fun.But i knew it was suppose to be sunny in Pismo.Got on the rd at 9 and made there in record time and of course it was 85 and beautiful, wish i could of said the same for the surf it was a small 2-3 ft but amazingly beautiful clear water but it looked cold. We booked into the good old Motel 6 yee ha.Met up with some of my Buddies,Isareal,Stephen,Vincent and a few others .I also was stoked that my other half Shawna came up for the comp we always have an amazing time.
We went down town for a nice quiet dinner with friends and to check out the small town.
I was in bed by 11 since i new i had to get up early.
6am rolls around and its but ass cold and foggy,We head down to the pier and cant see a thing with the fog. They postponed it for a half hr and boy that fog cleared up fast.
I had a debate booties or no booties?I asked everyone who came in how the water temp was and they all said it was perfect.
Waves were 2-3 still and a little disappointing but i wasnt going to let that bring me down.
I paddle out in my 1st heat and got a bunch of fun little waves got the scores i needed oh and the water was nice warmer than Oceanside.Got out got my scores i won that heat.
And the weather was amazing
I surfed a few more heats and made it to the finals in the Open and masters.I was amping to make the finals again.i was 1st in masters and 6th in the open so i knew i needed to do well.
I went out in both finals feeling pretty confident even though the waves went from ok to bad ,just super small an inconsistent.
i did what i could and in the end.I got 4th in the Masters and just extended my lead so that was good.
Open mens i pulled a 2nd and that jumped me up to 2nd so i was happy.I will take over the lead with the next event Mission Beach Nov 12.
All in all it was a great event .Had a blast hungout with great friends ,made some new ones and just a perfect weekend.
Now the next event is NOV12 Mission Beach hope to see u there.
Thanks to the WSA and all my Sponsors u Rock

WSA Gatorade SurfTour Stop #2 Ventura Ca ,
Happy Tuesday Everyone
Just got back from an amazing little getaway to good old Ventura,Left Friday for the 2nd stop of the WSA Gatorade Surf Tour www.surfwsa.org.
We headed up with clear skies knowing there would be some surf which is always a good thing.Arrived Friday afternoon and got to the hotel and relaxed for a little while before going to the contest site to check heats and waves and low an behold there was super fun waves.Got my heat times and headed to downtown for some fun the rest of the night,There are a few really good restaurants so we ate a great meal went and checked out the cool shops met some great people and had an amazing night before heading back to the hotel for the night.
Woke up at 7 am sat got ready and headed to the contest ,arrived super amped and ready to win :). Waves were 2-4 and super clean sun was blazing already .I knew it was going to be a great day.Saw all the boys chatted about the comp and what we had been up to in the month and a half break we had.
Time to check in for my 1st heat i was so ready and focused,Horn buzzed i paddled out got my 1st wave and scored a 7.5 out of 10 and caught a bunch more good waves and ripped the hell out of the them ,finished that heat and they announced Paul with the heat win.I surfed 6 other heats and won everyone of them by a good margin.I was so amped and so focused,i could tell all the training i have been doing was really paying off.
3:15 and it was time for the final.I grabbed my jersey and was getting ready to paddle out for the final its a little hard when most of the guys are ur good buddies but i got my head in the game to win and not worry about them,
I started off with an okay wave scored a 4 not good.waited for a good set wave paddled hard and got it did some nice linking outside turns and a last good tail slide to get an 8 .Now i just needed another decent score waited out the back for 1 more set wave with 3 Min's to go,The other guys all got some great waves but i wanted that 1 good wave.a set was approaching and i let the 1st 2 waves go .I paddled for the last wave of the set and got a 6.5 and after that i knew i had won the final.
I was still a little nervous as they announced the results but when i heard i had won a sense of relief and excitement had come over me and i knew it was back to back wins.after that we went and celebrated down town that night before heading back to the hotel for the night.
Left Sunday morning to head back .It was a great weekend. Thanks to all my sponsors for the support and keeping me looking so good at all the events.

Pluey is the 2011 Maters USA Champ
2011 has been a bit of a rollercoaster yr on the WSA tour, but in the end i became the 2011 West coast Masters and Open Men's champ which was insane, but the best part was qualifying for the USA Championships and the chance to be the USA Masters champ and surf Lowers with 3 other guys.Little did i know what was up ahead.
I got the invite to the US championships 2 weeks prior to the event which would be held June 18-19 at HB.If u did well in that then June 21 i would be surfing Lowers for the 25 min Final.
I arrived fit and ready for the task ahead.Got up at 6am on the 18th and headed to HB for my 930 heat.I arrived to 3-5 ft clean peaks and was so amped to surf, went out for a free surf to work out all the kinks, and it was a good call the surf was a little tricky.
Finally its 920 i check in grab my jersey and wait for the horn.
Paddle out and wait in the line up for the heat to start. Finally its time a set approaches right at the start i get a good left and put a score on the board,i get a few more good waves and I'm in 1st for most of the heat then a guy gets a 6 and takes the lead with 2 minutes to go i just stay calm and sit on the guy in 3rd who happens to be my good friend Tom, a wave approaches and he manages to get to the inside of me he takes off and i just sit and watch he drops in a little late and doesn't make the section and i sit there with a smile an 20 seconds left and knew i would advance to the final.I was a little bummed i didn't win but so stoked to be heading to lowers in 3 days for the final.
the next few days were nerve racking all i could think about was surfing lowers with 3 others out its a dream scenario for sure,And i wanted to win so bad ,I would be surfing against the #1 guy from Hawaii who are always a threat a friend from Ca and and the guy who beat me in HB .I wasn't going to let him beat me again hahah.I also checked the forecast and new the waves were going to be fun and pumping.
For those 3 day i just though in my head I'm going to win this is my time and may never get this chance again,
June 21 rolls around I had talk to my photog buddy Lance Smith of FreeLancevisuals.com an asked if would come and shoot photos he said for sure.I pick him up at 7am my heat was at 825am.The drive up was just nice and calm we talked about lowers and i was hoping it would be good lowers,
We arrive at 730 to the Lowers lot they only open for comps ,as we pull up you can see A Frame peeks and 25 guys practing before the comp,I was so excited pretty much jumping up and down.I get my stuff and we walk to the contest site and just see wave after wave and just perfect.
We arrive and i go right in to stretching and just talking in my head this is it now u have to go out and kick some ass.
I pick up my Jersey head to the water wait for the 5 min horn so i can paddle out.I jump in an paddle out and wait for the horn.
Horn blows and the 4 of us paddle to the line up and settle in..!st wave comes in and me and the Hawaiian paddle and he gets to my inside an goes i end up going over the falls and he gets a score i think here we go again not a good start,
Everyone gets a wave and I'm sitting in 4th with 22 mins left in the 25 min final.I finally get a little right and get a 3.2 not a great score but something still in 4th,The guy who beat me in HB gets a good wave and score a 5.5 he is in 1st with a 5 and a 4 I'm starting to get upset an freak out a little. Then a good head high left approaches and the Hawaiian paddle battles me again but I'm not letting him have it.I catch in and do a big turn right off the bat and do a few more turns a floater and 1 last turn.I wait for the score and i hear 7.83 the best wave of the heat so far. With that and a 3.5 I'm now in 1st .I get a few more waves and there is 2 mins left. The guy who beat me in HB is in 2nd and only needs a 3.5 to take the lead an there is only 2 min a set approaching and I'm still inside ,i watch as he paddles into a nice right with a long wall,He does a huge turn from the take off and i watch him get some more turns .I hear the score a 4.9 and I'm going shit hes going to beat me again.I make it outside with 30 seconds to go,I'm by myself and see a nice wave approach i hear the countdown from 10 and i need a 4.8 to win.I catch the wave do a big hit out the back and 3 more turns an hear the horn blow,I finish the wave and were waiting for the score i was pretty excited and clutching my fists with a grin,Finally 30 seconds go by and i hear the announcer say score is coming in will it be enough oh here it is a 4. and I'm thinking dam I'm not going to get it then he says 4.91 and i just freak out i did it i had won ,I saw Lance standing there with his camera and his hand in the air he was so excited ,I look over the other guy who beat me in HB and he was so bummed but i didn't care i was so excited .I hear over the loud speaker Here comes Ur 2011 Masters Champ PAUL PUGLIESI.
I get a bunch of high 5s and congrats from people watching the comp and other competitors,.
They announce the awards will be at 12 so i had a few hrs to spare,I drive home and come back and they do the whole awards ceremony .
I was so stoked and proud,I had fulfilled my goals ,Not only to win the West Coast title but to win The USA Championships put on by Quiksilver.
I would like to thanks all my sponsors, family, friends ,fans ,WSA,Surfing America and Quiksilver.

All About Protein
Protein. We all know it is important, but why? What makes this critical nutrient so important that all life here on Earth depends on it – from eukaryotic bacteria 3.5 billion years ago to life as we know it today?
Protein is literally the currency of life here on Earth. Much like cash can be used to purchase just about anything you want, protein is used to support your body in just about any way you can imagine.
Most people are aware that protein is essential for muscle repair, growth and maintenance, but did you know that it is also critical to your daily energy levels, mental performance, positive mood balance and general feelings of well being? Everything from brain chemistry and immune system function, to healthy skin, nails and hair, and even proper bone formation; the cells that compose blood and all our internal organs, connective tissue and even the fluid that lubricates our joints – all require adequate daily supplies of protein to function properly.
And not just any protein will do. All proteins are not created for the purpose of human nutrition. High quality protein for humans would ideally be easily and highly absorbable and contain an amino acid profile similar to that of our own bodies.
If there is insufficient dietary protein, these systems will compete for what is available creating a lack in some systems. If short supply continues our bodies will break down and use our own tissue stores in a catabolic process we call muscle wasting. One sure way to prevent this competition from occurring is to have ample high quality protein available at all times.
Consider this – depending on the health of our digestive track, stress and fitness levels, only a portion of the whole proteins (chicken, eggs, steak, dairy, fish, etc) we consume on a daily basis are actually absorbed and taken up into our cells. The balance is moved out as waste. This is because all the protein found in whole foods as well as most protein supplements requires significant digestion before it can be absorbed throughout the body.
Hydrolyzed Protein Delivers Higher Absorption
How can we absorb more of the protein we consume? Let’s use a simple analogy to illustrate the answer. Imagine a basketball (whole protein molecule) and a chain link fence (barrier to absorption). There is no way to fit the basketball through the holes in the fence – it is simply too large and bulky to pass through. Now imagine that instead of a basketball, we had a handful of marbles (highly hydrolyzed protein molecules). The marbles are able to fit through the holes in the fence and pass to the other side without any further significant reduction in size. This simple analogy demonstrates the digestion that must be done to break down (hydrolyze) whole proteins into a significantly smaller size so that absorption can occur.
Now imagine if there were a product that contained the molecular-sized marbles that were ready to be absorbed into the blood. Enter Proto Whey! Proto Whey is a unique form of protein designed for quick and complete absorption. In fact, it is so nutritionally superior that it is commonly given to individuals with chronic debilitating diseases, and others with increased protein needs such as professional athletes, weekend warriors, dieters and any person looking to fortify their daily protein needs. It is the only 100% pure and highly hydrolyzed whey protein in the market, guaranteed to provide your body with superior nutritional value over other protein supplements.
History
BNRG’s roots are closely intertwined with the life and career of its founder, Kevin Lawrence. In 1991, after a storied bodybuilding career, Kevin founded BioNutritional Research Group to research and develop protein substrates based on the same formula that had cured his son and to incorporate them into new bioengineered foods. Over the next five years he successfully formulated and tested the first commercial version of Proto Whey® protein, the flagship of a new line of nutritional supplements introduced to the market in 1998. Following the success of Proto Whey, Power Crunch® was developed with Kevin's recognition that there was a need for a better-tasting nutritional bar product that would please consumers of all ages. Power Crunch® is sold in health clubs, health food, grocery, drug, club and convenience stores over the US and thirteen countries internationally.
Over a decade and a half later, BNRG continues to be a success story extending the Power Crunch line with the unique Power Crunch Choklat® and adding critical energy and recovery products Alpha Glutamine® and Cell Charge®. As consumers become more aware of the critical role of protein in health, fitness and well being, and as they learn more about BNRG’s role in providing these important di and tripeptide protein products, BNRG’s growth will continue at its impressive pace.
Discovery and Formulation of Proto Whey
The protein formula developed by Kevin Lawrence in 1991 is the basis of BNRG’s proprietary di and tripeptide product containing 100% pure high-DH hydrolyzed whey protein.
Shortly after his birth in 1991, Kevin’s son developed a serious case of infantile colitis. Due to post-cesarean complications with his mother, he was not able to nurse normally and was getting all of his nutrition from infant formulas. For several weeks his health continued to decline and his parents became increasingly concerned that his early development would be compromised.
As his son’s condition dragged on, Kevin decided to get involved. “That sparked the beginning of intense research involving protein chemists, PhDs and MDs to whom I am eternally grateful," remarks Kevin.
Kevin and friends theorized that it was not a lactose or dairy intolerance that was affecting his colon. Nor was it some sort of allergic reaction. They believed the condition could very likely be caused by the naturally large, hard-to-digest protein molecules (peptides) in the infant formulas rather than the protein source or its accompanying ingredients. With the exception of only one brand, all the proteins in infant formulas at that time were whole proteins. When these large peptides are introduced into a new and extremely immature infantile intestinal tract digestive problems can and often due occur, including painful, gas-induced colic. The answer seemed obvious: feed Khalen a formula that has peptides that are already reduced in size – or hydrolyzed. Unfortunately, this was anything but easy to accomplish. The only available infant formula that claimed to contain hydrolyzed protein was six times the cost of any other product.
Additionally, further research showed that it was hydrolyzed to such a low degree (“Low-DH” as most other so-called “hydrolysates” on the market today) that in reality it represented only a marginal change over other products. But even this marginal change made a discernable improvement in the condition.
Now Kevin turned to commercial suppliers of raw proteins for help with the idea of creating his own high-DH formula to feed his son. Fortunately he was able to obtain some high-DH hydrolyzed whey protein powder samples that were not yet in commercial production. Kevin mixed these powders with the other special components necessary to maintain the proper caloric and nutritional needs of newborns and fed this new formula to his son.
After 48 hours, the battle was over. His son’s situation completely reversed in 2 days and the colic and diarrhea disappeared. The painful condition he had lived with almost from birth was gone. He never suffered from it again. That formula became the basis for the development of Proto Whey, BNRG’s proprietary di and tripeptide protein product. Kevin’s experience and new insights into protein absorption created the drive into further research and product development based on this remarkable effective form of protein.
Today, BNRG, Proto Whey and Power Crunch all owe their existence to Kevin and his son, whose journey helped forge a new understanding and application of high-DH hydrolyzed protein that has improved the health, performance and wellness of millions around the globe.

2011 West Coast Champ
2011 West Coast Champ
This Past weekend May 14-15 was the WSA west coast surfing championships held at churches,I went into the event with a strong lead in both the masters and open but it didnt mean i was safe since it was a double points event which can help u or hurt u.I had been amping for this event for a month but with a few weeks till the event i got hit with a bad chext infection an had to go to the hospital for treatments .i was getting bummed since i wasnt surf if i was even going to beable to compete but lucky for me i took my meds and stay out of the water and got better.I had only 5 days till the event and hadn't surfed in almost 3 weeks ,but i hustled surfed all day and trained my but off for the 5 days.
Heading into the event i was feeling pretty good .I looked at the surf forecast and it looked pretty dismal so i wasnt really expecting to much,I also just got a few fresh boards that i was trying out an they were feeling good so i was diffently heading to the event feeling confident.
i arrive Sat an it was a little windy, overcast and small waves 2-3 ft,I had my 1st few heats and won those so i was pretty confident i had already sealed the deal. But in the semi final heat of the open mens i paddled out and didnt get a good wave for the 1st 7 mins of a 15 min heat i was sitting in 4th , then i saw a set approaching and new if i got it i would get a good score and jump into the lead.As im paddling into the wave a guy S J starts paddeling towards me and swings around under me to catch the wave and i thought oh hell no so i keep paddling since i was further out and already commited to the left hander ,he paddles to my inside as im already up and throws his hands up to the judges,I start to go down the line and kick out and was like are u kidding me .I wait to hear what the judges say and I hear interference Red which was me on White and i lost it im saying to the kid are you serious trying to get me an interference and in a heat of anger i turn to the judges and give a double middle finger.I'm getting ready to catch another wave to try and make up for the interference and i hear over the loud speaker Red u have been disqualified from the event please leave the water. With 2 mins left i paddle in and hear everyone talking oh my god what just happened.I walk up to the judges and contest organizers and they tell me im done for the day and it was unsportsmen like and i was like come on thats not fair the kid purposely did it and i was mad.The head judge comes down an we talk and get everything squared away and i asked if i will be able to surf sunday the head judge said its up to the contest organizers.I apoligize to the head judge go down an talk to the organizers they deliberated and decided to let me surf the next day since i was in 1st place in both .They also gave me points for 4th in that heatwhich i new then i was the open champ .I was so stoked event though i had to leave the beach for the rest of the day.I did learn though that some actions can affect u in a big way.i left the beached humbled but even more fired up for Sunday.
I go home have some dinner an family time .Went to bed early since i had to be at the beach at 7am.
I wake up Sunday to overcast and rain clouds.i arrive to the beach and it is smaller 1-2 ft and just ugly.I look at my heat and its with my good friend we paddle out and just have some fun no real waves came through in the 1st 10 mins ,So we talk we each catch a few ok waves nothing big ,even though were good buddys and were diffently going to the final since it was only 2 of us in a 4 man heat i still wanted to beat him he had a little bit better last wave .I sat patiently and with 3 seconds i get the better wave of the heat and do 3 good turns after the heat i said haha looks like i beat u ,He laughed and we turned in are jeserys and hung out till the final.By the final i knew i had also sealed the masters title so there was no pressure. In the final it was me and 2 friends anda rival who wanted to win so bad.Waves were pretty bad after the little rain storm we had earlier in the day ,We paddle out water was warm but very inconsistent,Everyone started catching waves right off the bat,I got a few ok ones but notting special,a few of the other guys got some good ones.I kew after the 2o min final that i didnt get the good ones but i was still stoked.
It wa time for the results. They called 4th and it wasnt me then 3rd place Paul Pugliesi and so on.I was still stoked .
Then they did your 2011 OpenChamp and masters champ Paul Pugliesi i was so stoked and so releaved after a long yr.I was the WestCoastChamp
Now it will be nationals in June to decide who will be the National champ so stay tuned to see.
Yea its not a pro event but to me i dont care a comp is a comp pro or not it still takes a lot of mental and physical work .The ASP events are so hard to get into and the WSA is a great organization ,I need to keep my competition skills sharp so why not surf what i can . In between pro events So to all those out there who say negative things lets see u do it then talk ur bs.Im stoked with my results and life pro event or not.
Also thanks to all my family, friends and sponsors for there support .
